Ernie Wolfe Gallery presents ‘The Horror The Horror’ and
celebrates the publication of Extreme
Canvas 2: The Golden Age of Hand Painted Movie Posters from Ghana. The exhibit, excerpted from Wolfe’s
latest book, features 23 paintings by 8 artists, carefully selected by
musician, artist and horror flick aficionado, Brandon Boyd. The featured posters are all published, hand painted, unique
and original works of art, by known artists from the Golden Age of this exclusively
Ghanaian tradition that existed fleetingly from the late 1980s until the late
1990s, and were created for use within the context of their local tradition.
Says Wolfe
about the collection, “Starting
in about 1985 and continuing until just before the millennium, there existed a
Golden Age of hand-painted imagination-driven movie posters in Ghana. This was
a time when market forces from abroad were minimal and these unique and exotic
paintings were created solely for the local Ghanaian movie viewing audience.
The best and brightest artists of a generation competed fiercely and directly
in the public eye for this exciting new work, being careful to sign and date
the great majority of these paintings. Their hand-made artistry stood its
ground against the inevitable tide of printing technology that globalization
inexorably thrust upon them, and for a short while, carved out a small oasis in
time where man actually won out over machines.”

Presents ‘Wild Thing’, a group art
show and charity auction to benefit animal shelter and rescue team, STARTrescue.org. Home design company White
Faux Taxidermy was created with the idea that their uniquely customizable and
stylish faux pieces would pay homage to outdoor life without hurting animals in
the process. For ‘Wild Thing’, White Faux Taxidermy resin animals have been
given to twenty carefully selected
artists, both local and international in their rawest form, creating a highly
unique blank canvas. Each artist has made their chosen piece their own with
only one simple rule: honor the animal. The results are handcrafted, original,
one-of-a-kind pieces never seen before from these artists.

ABOUT START ANIMAL RESCUE TEAM: Every day thousand of pets are killed in Southern
California shelters. S.T.A.R.T. was formed in order to address the issues of
overpopulation by providing two very important components: 1)
Transports
animals are rescued from high kill shelters in central and southern
California and transported to northwestern rescue organizations, where they are
re-homed. 2) Spay/Neuter
funding veterinary clinics in local communities to
