Get to know a little bit more about him, as published on BLISSS mag blog, written by Art Duet!
1. You currently live in Malibu, is that where you grew up?
I’ve lived in Malibu for two years, but I actually grew up not far from here, over the canyon in good old Calabasas.
2. Describe your studio for us. In one word: active! – there’s a lot going on here at all times. It’s an inviting place, there’s always creative people dropping by so we hang out quite a bit. For instance today, even though I’m prepping for my show next week, there’s a video crew here. There’s always something going on. And it’s adjacent to my house, which makes it super convenient to working up to 16 hour days when needed.
3. A lion head named ‘crooked’ is your symbol – what’s the significance and why is the name?
It’s a lion for a few reasons – I am a leo so that’s one, and I’m really drawn to the perseverance and the strength of the lion, and I think a lot of people can relate to that. to that.The crooked part is a bit of a longer story that started with a Mother Goose quote I really liked when I was little that stuck with me:
There was a crooked man,
And he went a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence
Against a crooked stile:
He bought a crooked cat
Which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together
In a little crooked house.
4. While we are on the topic of names, where did the moniker cantstopgoodboy originate?
Well, it started out as just ‘good boy’ because I was a really good kid. Even though I was into street art I never really got into any major trouble so my mom would say, “you are SUCH a good boy” at least once a day. The nickname stuck and when I was in Boulder in college a few years ago, I started painting stop signs, lots of them. And then it was soon won’t stop, can’t stop, etc…
5. Did you read a lot of comics growing up? What were your faves?
I was really just a big fan of the art and was always drawing comics on my own.
When I was really young I went on a tour at DreamWorks and it left a big impression on me. Very early on I wanted to be an illustrator.
6. If we head to LA where can we see your murals? They’re scattered all over! At the moment, there‘s one in Westwood, one near Sepulveda and Santa Monica blvd, one in Silverlake at Dangerbird Records office and one in Malibu. I will do one at a major record label in a few weeks after my Project Gallery show opens.
7. Any plans to cover any walls in our neck of the woods?
Murals always come my way really organically, so I just go with the flow. So, maybe?!
